What are singletons?

I can’t find any information on what singletons are used for. Also, when setting up the permissions for a singleton, I’ve given a group that I have defined the “Form” permission. However, when I login as that type of user I cannot see the singleton. There is no documentation on how I would use singleton’s via the API. Is this feature fully baked?

I’m not 100% sure but I think singletons are for instance an About Page that will only have one record whereas as a collection has multiple records following the same pattern.

Difference between Singleton and Region

Quoting @artur: Singletons will replace regions. While looking back on past projects I investigated that regions where postly used like “single item” collections (e.g. for global configuration etc). the template feature was pretty useless as most of the time the rendering was on the client side. so regions will get removed from the core and will get replaced by “Singletons”.
