Request limit for API?

Does a request limit exist for the api? Is there such a function for the ‘public’ API-key and the registered users? Or is there already an add-on for this?

For example: 60 requests per minute for registered users (or manually defined for each user) and 1 request per minute for public keys with no account. Otherwise: HTTP Code 429 for too many requests.

I’ve been using this API protector addon for my personal projects but didn’t publish it.
Today I made a repo for it and you can give it a try here.
