# How do update cockpit v2?

I was wondering if i need to just reupload via FTP or is there any other setting i am unaware of?

To clarify the project is already v2

Hey 👋

To update Cockpit you have two options:

**Via console (since v2.2.2):**

Run the following command in the root of your cockpit installation:

```auto
./tower app:update

```

**Manually:**

Download the latest release from [releases • Cockpit files](https://files.getcockpit.com/?dir=releases)

Override everything **EXCEPT** the `config` and `storage` folder

Thank you. can i use the manual technique for earlier version of cockpit (~v 1.8 i guess) ?
